Trina Turk's s/s2011 Collection Presentation
TEXT, VIVIAN KELLY
Trina Turk celebrated her 15th anniversary by hosting her first event during New York Fashion Week. The theme of the Spring 2011 collection, “Palm Springs Eternal,” was reflected through various vignettes with live models. Trina drew inspiration from the multicultural mix, architecture, and landscape of California, and most prominently from the cocktail parties and poolside lifestyle of the desert.
We walked into the space and into a little bit of the paradise designer TRINA TURK and stylist MIMI LOMBARDO created. Lately, designers have looked back to the glamour of seventies era Palm Springs. There were yellow fez print towels, tall straw hats, Gold + turquoise and gold necklaces and white cutout caftans came together perfectly styled by one of my favorite fashion people, MIMI LOMBARDO, who dashed out to give me a quick hug before going back to her duties.
I got a chance to chat with Trina about her brand. It's turning into a full-on lifestyle brand. There was
men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, swim, jewelry, beach bags, towels, pillows and also indoor/outdoor fabrics from her Schumacher collection.
To my surprise, there ARE candles on the line, but no fragrance - at least not-yet.
Said Trina, "Hmm, a fragrance. I do love spicy, and my mother wore Shalimar but In terms of our brand, it would have to be light amd fresh, which doesn't mean it would be 'young' Fragrance is not an age."
